The pre-ride crew arrived hungry, and the folks in Thornton did not disappoint. This is the first time ever serving as a pass-through town, so let’s show Thornton some RAGBRAI love! Thornton is the perfect distance from Clear Lake for a breakfast stop at just over 13 miles. Today we followed the green river of fields through the following towns: Today we showed our respect for the Law Enforcement on our team with blue ribbons from C.O.P.S. After that time if there are any remaining caps we will sell them for $20 with all proceeds going toward Iowa C.O.P.S. We will hand out baseball caps to Law Enforcement Officers between 7-8:30 in the downtown RAGBRAI Merchandise Trailer. RAGBRAI Day 4 will be Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, honoring the brave men and women who help protect us every day. We will also have a ceremony honoring Law Enforcement in Charles City. The roads were good overall but there were some rough patches so you will want to keep an eye out and watch for cracks. We traveled over 57 miles and 1,290 feet of climb. But as the song goes, we had to keep on rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ down the river (highway) through Thornton, Swaledale, Rockwell (the meeting town), Cartersville, Rockford, and Charles City on Day 4 of the Route Inspection. Well we sure were Proud Bikers as we rolled into Clear Lake, and we felt like fortunate sons and daughters after the warm welcome they gave us. ![]()
